At Heffernan Insurance Brokers, philanthropy is central to our mission. Through our Heffernan Foundation, we’re dedicated to improving the communities where we live and work. This commitment is integrated into our company culture, and we are proud to share our employees share the same passion.

Our support spans across grants, scholarships, matching gifts, and more. Explore the various ways we’re giving back and making a positive impact:

College Track Scholarship: Heffernan partners with College Track to award one student annually with a $60,000 scholarship, disbursed at $15,000 per year over four years, to support their university tuition and related expenses.

Dollars for Doers: Employees who volunteer 25 or 50 hours at a nonprofit organization within a year receive $500 or $250 respectively for the chosen nonprofit.

Employee Volunteer Time: Heffernan employees are granted up to four paid days off per year, one per quarter, to volunteer at local nonprofits. Heffernan also participates in the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s Annual Week of Giving.

Employee Matching: Heffernan offers employees the opportunity to donate to 501(c)3 charities of their choice, with Heffernan providing a dollar-for-dollar match.

Garee Lee Smith Scholarship Award: The Heffernan Foundation awards up to ten $10,000 scholarships to students in honor of Garee Lee Smith, one of the company’s early employees who helped shape its family-friendly culture.

Grant Donations: The Heffernan Foundation supports local communities in education, shelter, and food by providing grants to 501(c)3 nonprofits. Grant amounts, typically ranging from $2,500 to $25,000, are awarded by invitation on an annual basis.

Program Related Investments (PRI): The Heffernan Foundation allocates a portion of its Endowment Fund to provide small business loans to nonprofits or for-profit social enterprises in underserved communities of color. These loans, ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 at 1% interest, support initiatives that traditional banks may overlook.
